ALLOY IDENTIFICATION

ALLOY IDENTIFICATION P.M.I. Positive Material Identification
ASTM DESIGNATION E 1476 CHEMICAL SPOT CHECKS

Code 23.100 CELMO Reagent Molybdenum for AISI 304 vs 316

To distinguish AISI 316 from 304, you only need one reagent and one step.

Apply a drop of CELMO to the (abraded) metal surface and after 1 – 5 minutes it will turn brown if it is 316, no change with 304. Kit for over 350 test

Code 23.101 DL12 Electrochemical Molybdenum and Manganese Reagent

Positive identification test for Molybdenum content in every kind of alloy, including Hastelloy, stainless and specials, and Manganese.
A two step electrochemical test using two solutions and a (supplied) battery.

TEST FOR AISI 316 VS 304
  • 3-4 drops of Reagent “1” is added to a (supplied) test paper which is then placed on the (abraded) surface in any desired position: flat, vertical or overhead.

  • Apply one probe from the battery at the center of the wet paper and the other at the side for 5 sec.

  • Add two drops of Reagent “2”

  • Add 2 – 3 drops of Reagent “1”
= A pink halo develops around the center spot if 316
= White halo around the center spot if 304 300 tests per kit c.a.

To distinguish AISI 200 Type from AISI 300 Type.

  • Add 3-4 drops Reagent 1 to a filter paper (supplied) and apply it on the surface, that should be cleaned by not abrasive paper.

  • Apply the electrode from the battery at the centre of the wet paper and the other at the side, on the metal surface.

  • It immediately appears a pink halo around the electrode if the surface is AISI 200 Serie. The halo remains white if the metal is AISI 300 Serie.

Code 23.102 DL12R Refill kit for 300 tests c.a.

The kit contains two reagents #1, one reagent #2, 300 filter papers and one battery 9V. Kit for 300 tests c.a.

ALLOY IDENTIFICATION P.M.I. Positive Material Identification
ASTM DESIGNATION E 1476 CHEMICAL SPOT CHECKS

Code 23.105 PTK Surface Passivity Test Kit

This kit verifies if the surface is passive and if it will resist to oxidation as requested by steel specifications for AISI 300 and 400. it can also be used to quickly separate Serie 400 from Carbon steel.

Apply 1-2 drops of Reagent “A” to the surface to be inspected and let it react for at least 1 minute.
Absorb the drop with the filter paper (supplied) and add 1 drop of Reagent “B”.
The paper will remain white if the surface is passive or if the piece is Stainless steel 400 Serie
If the paper will change color into pink it means that the surface is not, more or less, passive.
The more pink, the less passive. An intense red colour means that the piece is Carbon steel
Kit for 300 tests c.a.
